The Times - You have all been warned…
It sounds as though a few people are having fun with the news that I am looking into German ancestry on my mother’s side to see whether I can play as a non-overseas player next season. Apparently one newspaper in Australia has called me “Adolf Warne”.
It’s nice to hear these things being reported in good taste. I need to clear this up. I live in England at the moment but I am Australian, will always be Australian and will go back there when my career is over. All we are doing is investigating EU regulations to see whether we can strengthen Hampshire for 2008 without breaking any laws.
For the record, I can remember going to Germany only once in my life. It was in 1988 when a few of us from Mentone School spent three weeks touring the United States and parts of Europe. We stopped off in Munich, pushed open the doors of a bierkeller and went “d-rink, d-rink, d-rink”. Let’s just say it was not a cultural trip.
