The Times - Hampshire’s decent start
We have made a pretty good start at Hampshire this season. Rain has knocked us back at times and captains seem to be reluctant to open up games on the last day.
Sometimes you must be prepared to lose to win: if you lose four or five games but win eight or nine, there’s every chance of ending as champions.
I don’t know whether sides are still feeling each other out or if there is a genuine fear of relegation. All being well, we can get in a full game against Sussex today. There is a bit of history between us, so it will be hard fought.
It’s a shame that my old friend Matt Prior is not with them.
We were interested to spot a few weeks ago that the number on Chris Adams’s back is now the same size as the others in his team. Last year it was bigger than the rest. Obviously he wanted to let everyone know he was number “1”, but it’s good to see that he has lowered himself to the same level as his mates.
