World T20 Day 14
England v Sri Lanka
In the first semi final England turned up and immediately took control of the match.
They decimated the well performed Sri Lankan outfit and reduced them to 4/47 after 9 overs including the big wickets of Jayawardene, Dilsahn and Sanga.
Whilst Matthews provided a fight back, the damage was done and the Lankans were held to a modest 128.
In reply, the Poms came out full of attack and made quick inroads to the total. By the time the openers were don, they had left an easy job for the middle order to finish off the demolition. They achieved this with four overs and 7 wickets in hand.
England was again very impressive. Everyone delivered without an unhealthy reliance on any individual. They are going to be very hard to beat!
Australia v Pakistan
What a match!!
This delivered on everything that has made T20 the phenomenon it is today… Big scores, big hits and tension right down to the last few balls of the match.
Pakistan posted a really big score lead by the Akmal brothers who were sensational! They both keep the innings going at a rapid rate.
The Pakistani’s really lifted the tempo in the last few overs to score 73 from their last 5 and it was only a sensational over from Taity, in the last over, that stopped them getting over 200. Taity, we needed more of that in the IPL!
When the Australians went in for their reply, I was hoping they would get off to a flyer and take the ascendancy. However, every time they started to get going they lost a wicket to halt their run chase.
Whilst they kept pace with the Pakistani team, the late surge they had would always be difficult to match.
At 4/62 from 8.2 overs the Aussies looked in real trouble. Bundy Bear, Cameron White, then came in and launched a few sixes to get the innings back on track and give some hope that they might still be a chance.
His wicket and another soon after, Smith, left Australia in a hole that looked like it had no way out.
Enter Mr Cricket!! After scoring 3 from his first 7 balls, he then went on to score 57 from his next 17 balls including three 4’s and six 6’s!
After a single off the first ball of the last over by Johnson and 17 from 5 needed, he then went 6,6,4,6 !!
It was an amazing effort, I couldn't be happier for him. He is so dedicated to his cricket and such a nice guy, I am so glad that he has regained his form to be able to deliver this sort of innings after the tough patch he endured for 12 - 18 months up to this year.
He looks like he has a lot left to give too, well done mate.
Pakistan did everything right except for the last couple of overs when Huss got to them. They should be proud of their effort.
The final is next and I just don't know which way it will go. The Poms are playing really good cricket but Australia are getting the job done just as impressively as well.
I hope both teams play to their potential and give everyone a great exhibition of the sport and Australia win of course!!
Pup, Clarke, has been captaining very well throughout the tournament and my big tip is for him to back it up in the final with a big innings. Come on Pup, I know you have got what it takes to turbo charge your class and get the boys over the line!
