My comeback
I first spoke to Eddie about the possibility of a comeback a while ago when he approached me about playing a couple of games.
At first I was really unsure about it. I thought that I had retired for good after my time with the Royals; however Eddie is a very influential person!!
The revamped KFC is a huge initiative from Cricket Australia and I believe in it. If me playing can help it gain a better following in its early years, I am happy to play my role and give something back to a sport that has given me so much.
With the opportunity to play another couple of games at the greatest venue in the world, the MCG, and for my kids and fiancée, Elizabeth, to come and see me playing cricket out here, at the MCG, will be pretty special."
However, this is about actually wanting to be a part of the Melbourne Stars, imparting my knowledge on the next generation of players and all the players that are currently playing now.
Whilst my manager, James Erskine, originally discussed a 2 game offer with Ed, I thought if I am going to do it, I want to do it properly.
I think it's going to be exciting and that's why I rang Ed and said 'let's do this properly.
It's something new ... and that's what enticed me.
It's got nothing to do with money. If it had something to do with money and me coming out to play cricket, I'd still be playing in the IPL. This is something that I'm passionate about.
It's the same money (as my two-game contract). There's salary caps and all that sort of stuff in here, so you can only get 'x' amount of dollars. I promise you it's hasn't got anything to do with that.
There were a few offers about playing a game here or there. I thought it was an opportunity where I could actually give something back to the game of cricket that has been so good to me. There are so many good young players.
I'm fitter than I've ever been and over the next sort of month or so I'm going to really get into the bowling and doing all those sorts of things with the Melbourne Stars.
Hopefully I can still land them!!
