Murali Retires

Published by Shane Warne

I just caught the news that my mate Murali has announced his retirement. He has been sensational for Sri Lankan cricket, and cricket in general, for so long it will be a shame we won’t be able to watch him for much longer!! One more test and probably one more 10 wicket bag for the magician!!

Going into his last test he had 792 wickets and the question on everyone’s lips was, “would Murali get to 800”!!

He got off to a good start picking up his old sparring partner, Sachin, early in his spell and the crowd went crazy! When he picked up 4 more quickly to finish off the Indian innings and add another 5 wicket bag to his other 66 it was an amazing scene……… think The Beatles in their prime!!

He came back in the 2nd innings with 3 more to get to reach 800. By the time he took his 2nd wicket and reached 799, the Indians were 7 wickets down and the drama was building!

Malinga then picked up Mutin to reduce the visitors to 8 wickets down. VVS then got ran out and there was 1 wicket left to be taken and Murali still needed it to reach 800…….. the tension was unbelievable.

After 15 overs, the fairytale finally became reality and Murali induced an edge which his longterm teammate, Mahela, took without a problem and pandemonium broke out!!

It was the perfect end to what has been an unbelievable career. Well done mate, you are a champ!
